Description:
Small to medium-sized, slim grey-and-white flycatcher with long wings, large dark eye, and small, broad-based bill. Has darker sooty-brown upperparts, and breast and flanks more heavily marked, with white crescent on neck sides and narrow white line down centre of belly.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor to central Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly to Gilgit, Astore and Diamer districts. Breeds in montane and sub montane evergreen forests and woods, coniferous and mixed secondary forests, at 2000-3350m, descending lower in winter.
Behavior:
Forages in forest glades and clearings, including along roads and paths. Often most active in late afternoon and at dusk. Sits alert and upright on high, open or prominent perch; pursues insects in flight, frequently returning to same perch. Food mostly small invertebrates, including dipteran flies, particularly hoverflies, midges, small hymenopterans and small beetles.
